“I think it’s really easy to talk ourselves out of finishing things. We start a project for any number of reasons and something goes sideways or doesn’t turn out the way we expect or want it to and then it’s easy to toss it aside and say that’s it, I’m no good. I can’t do this. And of course I speak from experience because I’ve done this way too many times. I know it’s that fear of being judged, that fear of someone looking at it and saying what the heck were you thinking?
But what if we could flip it and we could share stuff that we weren’t that sure about? And then the rest of the world stepped up and said wow that’s amazing. Wow! I can’t believe you did that thing that you did. Wow! Wow! Wow!
I think this is the piece where I fell so very deeply in love with texture and the game, because yes, to me it is a game, of manipulating fibers and threads to bring life to the story I want to tell.
I don’t know why texture means so much to me but perhaps that doesn’t matter. I can look at pieces I’m working on that have texture but aren’t quite there yet and I feel like each layer of texture is helping to breathe life into it and I only know it’s done when it has enough to feel it is no longer a part of my imagination but instead a living creation on its own.”
