Artist Statement

My work as a fiber artist is deeply rooted in a desire to foster a connection to nature. Each piece I create is an invitation to pause, breathe, and find a moment of peace in the chaos of everyday life. Inspired by the lush surroundings of my home in the Santa Cruz mountains, I aim to craft more than just art—I seek to create an experience that grounds the viewer, helping them feel more connected to the earth and to each other.

Working entirely by intuition, I rely on the energy of the materials I choose, allowing them to guide my hands as I stitch. The textures I build with each layer of wool and fiber are meant to evoke the intricate, unseen connections that exist in nature—the roots beneath the soil, the way everything in the environment is interlinked. I believe that the care and attention I pour into every stitch translate into an energy that flows from me to the viewer, creating a tangible connection between us.

Just as the garden I’ve nurtured over the years has transformed and evolved, so too does my work. Each piece is a continuation of my conversation with the natural world, an expression of growth and change. As my skills and understanding of nature deepen, my work evolves, with the ultimate goal of creating larger, more detailed landscapes that invite viewers to lose themselves in the beauty of the wild.

Through my Wildscapes, I hope to offer a visual meditation—a space where one can rest, reflect, and reconnect with the natural world. I want people to recognize that in nature, as in life, everything is connected, from the smallest roots to the tallest trees, and from one person to another.

Everything is connected.

What I Hope to Say with My Work

At the heart of my work is the belief that everything in nature—and in life—is deeply connected. My Wildscapes are a visual meditation on this interconnectedness, urging viewers to pause and recognize the delicate balance that exists between all living things. I hope to inspire a sense of mindfulness and appreciation for the small, often overlooked details of the natural world.

Wildscapes are part of my ongoing exploration of how nature’s unseen forces, like the micro-herds beneath our feet, support and nurture life. Just as these tiny organisms work in harmony to enrich the soil, I hope my art encourages viewers to recognize and cultivate their connections with others, fostering a sense of community and mutual support.

Each piece I create is a reflection of this philosophy—rooted in the textures, colors, and forms I observe in the landscape around my home. Through my work, I aim to create a space for contemplation and connection, where viewers can experience the healing power of nature and carry that sense of connection into their everyday lives.

Ultimately, my goal is to remind us all that we are part of a larger whole, and that by nurturing our connection to the earth and to each other, we can create a more compassionate and harmonious world.
