SCHOOL VISITS
AND CONFERENCES

I
offer a variety of programs for schools and conferences. Please feel
free to ask me to customize one to suit your needs.
Why Do I Need to
Read?
(Children) A short interactive program that shows why we need to learn
how to read. This combined with a reading from one of my books is great
for the very young crowd.
Once Upon a Time
There Was a Girl Who Wanted to Write
(Children and adults) This can work well with non-writers too as a
motivational talk. I share the story of what it has taken to make my
dream of being a writer come true.
Storyparts
(Children - all
ages)
This is a basic
writing workshop that covers the elements of a story, includes
brainstorming for ideas, writing the story, and the all important
revision process. This workshop is a great warm-up for your own Young
Author's event.
Family
Writing Workshop
(All ages)
I designed this
workshop for family literacy and PTA events. Through a series of guided
writing exercises
families will write together, creating a family book that is uniquely
theirs.
Examples of possible books are: Me and My World, Our Family History,
What I
Wish You Knew About Me, Special Moments in Our Family's Life.
Think
Like a Child
(Adults)
Great conference
workshop for children's authors. Ideal for when you
want a fun-for-all event. Using toys from our childhood, visual and
auditory prompts, we reconnect with our childhood and bring that child
to our writing.
Brave Writing -
Learning to Write with Emotional
Honesty
(Adults)
In order to write the kinds of stories that ring
true with our readers, we need to find the door, the tunnel, the secret
passage
from where we are right now to our dark areas, and back out again. Each
of us
will have a different path, and it is likely that each story will bring
a
different battle. Whether you are writing fiction or non-fiction, this
interactive class/workshop will help you push past your fears and take
your
writing to the next level.

If
You Want to Write:
A Workshop for Beginners
Who Want to Write for Children
(Adults)
This is a nuts and bolts workshop for beginning
writers. It is part writing workshop and part group creativity coaching
for people who want to write for children and need some help getting
started.
Publicity
Bootcamp for Children's Authors
(Adults)
You sold your first
book - TERRIFIC. Now what? Today authors are becoming more
and more responsible for their own publicity. You can count on your
book being
in the catalog and review copies being sent out but beyond that, it
will likely
be up to you to spread the word about your book. What do you do? Where
do you start? What goes into a press kit anyway? Learn
the answers to these questions and many more. You can download my brochure which is available in PDF form. In order to view the PDF you will need the
free Adobe Reader which you can get here.
